Wii U Competition

GAME is doing a competition chance to win a Wii U Premium Black* console. This is my entry to the Perfect GAME competition for the chance to win a Wii U from GAME.

 

I’d really like to see a game where it puts you into the game so you can get a feel for what it would be like inside a game. With expansive MMO online play so you can party up with other players or play on your own, and have a levelling system where you have to level up each stat for your character and not just your main character’s level, like leveling up Sword stats, Magic stats, Physical Stats. Also leveling up stats for multiple variety of stat groups, ie; Cooking, Combat, Metallurgy, etc…. Instead of using a controller, you are using a special headgear equipment which signals through your brain so you can control your actions within the game just like if you would in the real world, so you’re not limited to a set of controls on a controller for a limited amount of actions you can do.

Ubuntu 12.10 and MythTv

Quite recently I was tinkering around with new update Ubuntu 12.10 trying to get my Hauppauge HD-PVR (Gaming Edition) to work with MythTV, had hell of a time trying to configure it properly so I could record some gameplay footage with it. Getting the first initial setup did seem a little easy at first, but not until after I discovered I had to install some additional packages to get it all to work properly. Following the guide on getting and setting up MythTV from http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_ubuntu.php, before discovering a different and more easy to follow guide in a video from YouTube user called UbuntuHelpGuy. Fantastic guides I should recommend following if you’re needing help or stuck with something that you’re trying to do.

 

 

So if you follow as instructed from this video you should be able to get setup with your Hauppauge HD-PVR recording device with no problems. –– I would highly recommend installing MythBuntu repo packages, that is one vital thing you need to do to make sure this works. http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds

 

Once you’ve downloaded it, it should open up the Ubuntu Software Center and begin installing, it may ask for your password to install, and get a little dialogue for confirming you wish to accept and install agreement stuff.

After you’ve installed the repo packages, and other additional stuff from the Ubuntu Software Center as well as MythTV itself, you then run MythTV Backend to begin the initial setup as follows in the above video shown.

 

 

Step 1:

Make sure you’ve got your Hauppauge HD-PVR plugged into the computer then open up MythTV Backend then select Capture Cards, select New Capture Card from the menu list, then for Card type, select H.264 encoder card (HD-PVR), it should then in the next box say /dev/videoN where the N is, is the number it’s assigned, for example; /dev/video0 or /dev/video1. The probed info should say Hauppauge HD PVR [hdpvr] if you’ve got it plugged in.  For Audio input it should automatically have selected RCA Back, and the tuning timeout set at 12500 ms, make sure you hit Finish to save it.

 

Step 2:

Go back to the main menu by hitting Esc button then select Video Sources then select (new video source), you can name your video source whatever you want, so for example; HDPVR or Hauppauge HD-PVR, whatever you want to name it.  For the Listings Grabber make sure you select it as No Grabber. Leave Channel frequency table at it’s default and click Finish to save it, then return to the main menu again by hitten Esc.

 

Step 3:

Select Channel Editor from the menu, then select (Add New Channel), so again for Channel Name you can name it whatever you want, ie; Hauppauge HD-PVR so you know and remember what the channel is called. Next assign a channel number that you wish, it can be any number, so assign it 1 if that’s the number you want it. Name the callsign, ie; HDPVR. Make sure the checkbox Visible is checked. Next the Video Source, select from the list, it should already automatically select the one you created earlier. From here you can select the TV format type, ie; PAL, NTSC, NTSC-JP, etc… doesn’t really matter which leave it on Default if you’re fine as it is. For the Commercial Detection Method select All Available Methods. Click Next then Next again, the next page here you can adjust the TV video source settings like Finetune (kHz), Contrast, Brightness, Color, Hue, These settings are usually best left at their default state, but you can come back later if wish to change it to suit what you’d like, so just hit Finish for now, and you’ve created your channel for your Hauppauge HDPVR, then hit Esc to go back to the main menu.

 

Step 4:

Now it’s time for Input Connections, here you’ll see 3 things that says. Component, S-Video and Composite, what you want to select is Component. The display name you can name it whatever as an optional thing, ie; HDPVR. Make sure the Video Source is selected on from the menu list says HDPVR or from whatever you named it before in the previous steps. In the External channel change command text box make sure you type in /bin/true, then put Starting Channel to the number you created earlier if it’s not already selected. Now press Next then Finish and you’ve completed this step. You can now exit MythTV Backend by pressing Esc to go back to the main menu then again to quit.

 

When you close MythTV Backend it’ll ask you for your password, then it’ll ask if you wish to run Mythfilldatabase, just select No. Next you may have to logout and log back in again for the changes to take immediate effect, I’d recommend doing it as an optional thing, but do it anyway just to be sure. Next open up MythTV Frontend. Once opened up go down and select Watch TV, it should then bring you to live screen video feed that your Hauppauge HD-PVR is connected to like your game console for example. To begin recording something just press the R key on your keyboard, and if you wish to stop recording, just hit R key again.

 

With all that you’ll be able to replay video by going back to the main menu and selecting Watch Recordings. Another thing is if you have Media Server turned on, on your console like PS3 for example, you can playback the recordings on your PS3 as Ubuntu will broadcast it’s media server for MythTV to any computer that’s capable of receiving on your home network.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Trophy Patch

So recently and not too long ago, Kojima Productions Report podcast Episode 164 announced they were doing a Trophy Patch for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and that time has already come where they’ve now released this Trophy Patch of 516Mb in size, which includes various fixes for the game too as well as just adding in Trophies to existing MGS4 Games. They also said they’d be releasing a new batch of fixed updated game versions of Metal Gear Solid 4 which people can buy from stores, or just download the update if you’ve already currently got the game.

The Trophy Patch comes with the following updates to it;

  • Save Data created before the patch will NOT unlock Trophies automatically.
  • Save Data created after the patch will also NOT pre-unlock trophies if you import another Save Data that’s not your own.
  • METAL GEAR® ONLINE menu item has been removed as it’s no longer in service, in place of being able to fully install Game Data before playing.
  • All current existing METAL GEAR® ONLINE save data will also be deleted after the patch update.

Some of you may be feeling sad that your Metal Gear Online Save Data will be erased in the same process as of updating. However don’t feel as if everything’s all lost, just remember all the good times you’ve spent playing Metal Gear Online! :3

You have to unlock 34 Trophies for this game, some can be obtained pretty easily if you’ve already played through the game, and alot of them can be obtained when playing through new first play through as you play through the game normally, you’ll get trophies for beating every chapter normally, as well as special ones where you have to do something specific in the game to unlock them. Here’s the list of Trophies you can get, the hidden ones are Main Story, and Special ones. I’ve unlocked a few of them myself.

I would reckon this should be easy enough to complete this list, providing it’s not too difficult, although some on there do look pretty tough! ;P –– I would have to say that the most difficult ones to obtain would be Ghost Photography Addict, Flashback Mania, Sounds of the Battlefield, and I Just Don’t Fear Death with obtaining the Corpse Camo to begin with. Collecting the iPod Music Tracks would be most difficult since you have to look around for them to obtain them all, and will require a 2nd play through, there is hard decisions to make later in the game for obtaining an iPod Music Track later on Shadow Moeses, when you are asked to input the 4 key code for Otacon, since there it more than 1 special code which unlocks the following;

  • 100,000 DP ::: 14893
  • Opening-Old L.A ::: 78925
  • Policenauts Ending ::: 13462

Two of which are iPode Music Tracks and the other for obtaining 100,000 Drebin Points. You can only input one of these through playing the game, so you’ll have to come back and obtain the rest later, however obtaining 100,000 DP can be obtained as many times needed during each play through, so it’s not just a 1-time-only collection like the iPod Music Tracks. –– To get the Corpse Camo you have to use 50 Continues to unlock it on any difficulty, the Corpse Camo makes people think you are dead when you either lie down or get knocked down by the enemy and sit there doing nothing, they’ll stop shooting at you and come to inspect your body then walk away. This Camo works great with the face of Big Boss. –– For getting Ocelot to kiss you during the final battle, let him grab you in CQC, and he should automatically do it, if he doesn’t just keep trying.

To get the Ghost Photography Addict trophy I would suggest leaving that to a 2nd time of playing the game after you’ve obtained The Sorrow Doll after beating Screaming Mantis in the previous play through, The Sorrow Doll will help you find the Ghost images you need to find to take pictures of when you Equip it with the Camera when you’re in Shadow Moeses.

And for those of you wondering why METAL GEAR® ONLINE is closed now is because the service has been running for 4 years, and after the long 4 years it was time to bring it to an end, but fear not, someday you may see another Metal Gear Online, the third instalment, Metal Gear Online v3.0, and hopefully on it’s own disc world wide and not bundled together with another game, and hopefully a long lasting service of playing MGO. :3 –– Here’s a video I gathered together and created during the end days of MGO, I was gonna post a blog about it back then when MGO closed, but with tight deadline for producing the video was tough, I didn’t complete the video till July when it was suppose to of been finished for June 12 when MGO ended. Kid Icarus: Uprising

Kid Icarus: Uprising has got to be one of THE most brilliant game ever for 3DS! ……there’s so much I can write about this, but wondering where I should begin! XD ……*breaths* …lets start from the beginning! –– The story of the game begins off with bright and cheery and packed with lots of excitement for your first part of your journey in the game, where Pit emerges from Sky World and takes flight with the help of Lady Palutena’s power as a gift to Pit,  and down into the world below to help the humans fight off the invasion of the Underworld Forces, en route on going to the human world below he meets Medusa, Queen of the Underworld, whom announces her return after 25 years from the first time when Pit defeated her. –– I should say here that it doesn’t matter if you’ve playing the old SNES game of Kid Icarus, you’ll learn all about enemies and past foes in this game as they make their return, plus meeting new characters along the way. However if you’re curious about the old game you should be able to download it from the eShop on 3DS under Virtual Console section or 3D Classics.

Pit

One of the best things you’ll probably LOVE above this game is the story most of all, I really love how all the characters mingle during game play while you play, so you never get stuck with long cut-scenes, you’ll get short cut-scene intervals when you reach certain points in the game. The characters and the way the react to one another is great too, you’ll get a bunch of good laughs out of it, as I pretty much did myself. You’ll love Pit as he gets bashed quite a bit with some jokes the characters throw at him as he struggles to keep above the jokes. ^^ As you go through the first half of the game’s few chapters you’ll be facing off against some familiar foes which Pit has previously defeated before like… Twinbellows, a large 2 headed demonic dog-like fiery monster. Hewdraw a large serpitine monster. Pandora, Goddess of Calamity, a soap-like-bubble spirit with only a ramenants of a face, however later on in the later chapters of the game “Scorched Wings”she gets revived back to life as her normal female figurine body and attacks Dark Pit as revenge for betraying her after exploiting her powers so he could fly. Dark Pit is a new character that suddenly pops up during the battle with Pit and Pandora, when she showed him the Mirror of Truth, Pit breaks this mirror and unleashed Dark Pit, Pit’s Doppleganger, Palutena and Pit nickname him “Pitoo” which means “Pit Two”. He’s also known as “Black Pit” or “Kuro Pit” or “Fallen Angel Pit”. Dark Pit refuses to be a puppet of being using by Pandora, so both Pit and Dark Pit ended up taking her out. Dark Pit appears as like a boss slash mini-boss towards Pit, as he does seem hostile at first but later teams up with him in the later chapters to defeat Pandora once again after she’s revived. At one point in the game you get to play as Dark Pit when Pit’s wings gets burnt up from the previous mission while trying to save Dark Pit after Chaos Kin tried to take him.

One of the more familiar foes Pit encounters is Thanatos, God of Death, he appears as one of the major villains in Kid Icarus Uprising, he later reveals that he’s reincarnated from the original Kid Icarus, serving under Medusa as second-in-command. –– While Pit’s on his quest to save Sky World and the Human World he encounters some rather friendly, and some unfriendly characters. Pit meets a powerful human fighter Magnus whom appears when Pit is going in after Dark Lord Gaol, who later is revealed after defeating him which turns out to actually be a she, a female human, but before Pit could get any more information Palutena extracts Pit from battle. When Pit is on his way to Thanatos who’s in Seafloor Palace he meets Poseidon, God of the Sea World, and ally of Lady Palutena, Goddess of Light. He opens the way to Seafloor Palace at Palutena’s request. Later in the game Pit meets Viridi, a new major character in Kid Icarus Uprising, she is a vengeful godess of nature and has a deep hatred for the human race because they’re destructive and destroy everything beautiful, to the point where she unleashes her forces of nature of the human armies and purge them from existence with her incredible power. Pit however foils her plans to wipe them out and gets a bit annoyed with him for destroying her production factory for her reset bombs. At some point later in the game she takes over Palutena’s job for Pit due to unforeseen circumstances, she helps Pit to fly, which leads right up to the story in the chapter where Pit’s wings get scorched from trying to save Dark Pit, while before also trying to save Palutena from Chaos Kin’s clutches which turned Palutena evil and destroy the place a bit in both Sky World, and Human World.

In Kid Icarus there are many other mythology characters, as you may of already guessed from some of the names mentioned above like… Pandora, the Greek name of the girl who opened the box called Pandora’s Box, Poseidon, the master and god of the sea, Hades, which you should be most familiar with in Greek Mythology as brother of Poseidon and Zeus, however it was never mentioned in Kid Icarus, so it’s unclear if it applied to them in these games. Medusa, in Greek Mythology she was known to be most beautiful woman and sister Euryale  and Stheno. Though she was priestess Athena (the inspiration for Kid Icarus series), the goddess changed her into a monster once she found out that Medusa and Poseidon had been making love in her temple. Medusa‘s monstrous form was so hideous that anyone gazing upon her countenance would instantly be petrified. She was later beheaded by Perseus, wielding a Mirror Shield.  Arlon, although it’s not quite clear which greek mythology Arlon comes from as all the lunar gods from the Greek pantheon are females. Pyrrhon, most likely inspired by Apollo from Greek Mythology, who is god of the sun, although his name appears to be based on Pyrrho, a Greek philosopher. It might also come from the word “Pyro” which means fire, either one I don’t think it would really matter, it’s a really good name anyway, and it sounds so fun to pronounce. :3

In Kid Icarus Pyrrhon is self proclaimed god of the sun, and assists Pit fighting off an alien invasion, he appears during the Aurum arc of the main storyas an ally in the former two and a brainwashed antagonist in the latter. His primary method of offense is his ability to manipulate fire and use it to attack enemies and his ability to fly fast. He is depicted as a strong head superhero-like character with a large ego and surprising intelligence, although the latter two traits do conflict with each other sometimes when Pyrrhon talks.

Throughout the game Pit battles with many familiar enemies from the original Kid Icarus, some time early in the story he comes across his dreaded foe, the Eggplant Wizard, because it could turn Pit into an Eggplant, he dreads up a conversation with Palutena about his situation when he first got turned into an Eggplant and tries to make a joke out of it with “HosPITal” but failed to impress with his lame joke. xD  Like I’ve said earlier this game is riddled with plenty jokes between the characters throughout the story, lots with Pit’s enemies like Hades, Thanatos, Medusa, Pandora, and some of not-so-enemy friends like Viridi, and Phosphora. There are plenty twists in the story, one minute it’s one thing the next it’s something else so unexpectedly, and you’re like “are we there yet? …did we complete it!?” then you’re given more of the story as the new twists of the story rolls in. Kid Icarus is sure to give you a run for your money, it’s well worth the buy for the amount of awesomeness that’s piled into this game.

Kid Icarus lets you use Kid Icarus Edition AR Cards with your 3DS’s camera, when you set a card down the whatever’s on the card will popup just like it would with ordinary Nintendo AR Cards. You can set up to 3 cards at once and battle with them by making them face each other with the small little arrows pointing at each other that are on the bottom of the cards pictures. With Kid Icarus you get a set pack of 6 random AR Cards, you can also get additional 12 more AR Cards for Kid Icarus if you register the game on Nintendo’s site and redeem your points for 2 packs of 6 Kid Icarus AR Cards, giving you a total of 12, each have random card sets inside. When you’ve viewed these AR Cards with your Kid Icarus games, they’ll appear under Idols from the Main Menu > Vault, they’ll have a small little camera icon to show that you’ve viewed it on the AR Card. In addition to of viewing them you also gain hearts in-game which you can use to redeem for many things like new weapons, offerings to Goddesses, or increasing level difficulty. The more you increase level difficulty the better the rewards you receive during play and after you complete your mission, fail however your level difficulty drops and you’ll lose your chances of getting the bigger reward. On a note about the Kid Icarus AR Cards, they only work with the Kid Icarus game ONLY! –– You can’t use the Kid Icarus AR Cards when using the Augmented Reality app on 3DS. That may seem like a disappointment, but you still have all the fun with them with the Kid Icarus game.

When you complete certain tasks, missions and challenges, you unlock certain bonuses for the game like new weapons, additional music so you can listen to it from Vault in the Main Menu, and also unlocking pictures to be viewed when you’ve completed all the challenges. There are 4 different pictures, 3 of which the Gods and Goddesses plus one for gathering all the powers available in the game. Even while that’s keeping you busy you can also unlock alot of these challenges and achievements from playing the Online Multiplayer Modes, you have a choice of Light vs Dark and Free-for-All battles. These can be played either way, over Wi-Fi or Local with Friends, you can play online with friends over Wi-Fi too, so it’s not constrained to local only. –– Light vs Dark battles is sort of all-out brawl to be No.1, you’re in a set teams of 6, so that’s 3 on each team, when you’ve defeated enough opponents you get to play as Pit and you use him to take out everyone. Free-for-All is pretty much the same, but again you’re just aiming to be No.1 by taking out all opponents you see. You gain points for K.O’s on opponents however you lose point’s if you get K.O’d by your opponent. You can use just about any weapon from your arsenal that you’ve obtained from playing in Solo Mode, plus whatever Power’s you’ve got set to help you win the game. There comes a price when having certain weapons when you’re on a team battle like Light vs Dark, the higher the weapon’s value of attacks, the more HP you loose for that team if you’re K.O’d.

The online mode is pretty good, and pretty intense at the same time, so far I’ve only played Free-for-All, since it’s the only one I’m good at the most, the Light vs Dark is a little difficult to play with because your efforts depends on your team’s success, and if you keep failing, you’ll lose. One of the best things about the Online Mode is that you get a chance to win something at the end of the match with Random Prize Selection, so it doesn’t matter if you Win or Lose because you’ll still get a chance to win a weapon or power, it randomly selects a player instead of picking the winners. –– You can also exchange weapons as Gems and send them through SpotPass to other people who’ve got Kid Icarus games, you create Gem Weapons from weapons you’ve collected through Solo Mode play, you can also fuse together Gem Weapons to create new weapons from the SpotPass menu from the Main Menu. You can also create new weapons by fusing them together from the Solo Mode under Arms Altar.

While you’re not busy playing Story Mode or Online Mode, there’s the Training Mode where you can practice battles on Land and Air. While you’re practicing here you can gain hearts for defeating them, but only so little at a time, you can get probably around 100 Hearts or so from Training, however it’s quick and easy way of earning hearts for if you wish to take on harder difficulty of missions, or for offerings. Best to quit each time you’ve obtained max amount of hearts for training at a time, and restart training over and over till you get enough.

Whell…… I haven’t begun to discuss the controls of the game yet! xD ––Lets begin! :3 –– There are various controls to play with for Kid Icarus, and you can customize and setup how YOU want to control the game, remember though that Kid Icarus is compatible with the Circle Pad Pro add-on if you wish to use it, this is rather handy for Lefties, or use it as a camera control. You can control the Camera in two ways, 1: with the Touch Screen, and 2: with the B A Y X buttons, your attack button is the L button, the camera can be quickly locked onto the direction you’re facing by pressing the R button. While on Land you use the B A Y X buttons to move the camera and the rectal cursor  at enemies, same goes for in Air battles, you can only move the rectal cursor  around on the screen to shoot the enemies while using the circle pad to freely move about. The controls can be Hard or Easy, depending on how you’ve got your controls setup as. For me I have mine setup to be easy by setting Camera to the B A Y X buttons, Attacks on L, and Movement on the default Circle Pad. I can still use the Touch Screen to move the camera but I choose not to, to make it easier for me to play. When it comes to games, it’s all about finding the most easiest controls that you can work with so you can enjoy it more.

The music in Kid Icarus is pretty amazing, lots of exciting music that gets you going and playing for more, there is some little disappointment with the audio in Kid Icarus, for some parts the audio dialogues of characters mingling with game sound effects and the music, made it a little difficult to hear what the characters were saying when a certain sound effect was a little louder than usual, and it blocks out the audio dialogues with the characters and end up missing what they just said, however for most parts it’s very clear. However……that may be because I never adjusted the volume settings before playing, you can actually adjust the volumes for Music, SFX and Voice. xD –– So I’ll put that aside and give the audio a 10/10 :3

The graphics are superb and really clear and vibrant colored everything stands out really well, in some parts of the game I think the camera view’s could of been a little bit better, there were some missions where I was on close-calls where I had to take something out ……buuuut …of…… course the camera’s seemed a little too close for comfort to get a good shot in a the target I’m suppose to take out and destroy. If there’s ever gonna be a new Kid Icarus game in future, it had better come with a more adjustable camera for viewing in time-limited situations. ^^;

If there’s anything more I’ve to add to this game, and why this game is awesome and why you should play it, I’ll tell you why…… because it’s AWESOME!! best game you’ll ever play on 3DS ……yet! Don’t hesitate to buy this game, I strongly and 100% recommend this game. :3

The Last Story (Wii)

The Last Story is one of the most brilliant games I’ve ever played, and for it being on the Wii it’s pretty good actually. Exceptionally good game for the Wii, though I don’t expect it to be all razzle-dazzle HD Graphics or anything like on other home consoles like PS3 or Xbox 360, it still has amazing beautiful graphics you can sit back and admire. I’ve recently started taking a liking to JRPG games, I’ve never ever played games like Final Fantasy, but The Last Story is simply amazing, not because it looks similar to that of the Final Fantasy games, the story plot, the characters, the music, everything thats what makes this game amazing. When I saw the preview of The Last Story I was pretty amazed by how it looked.

I think I have to say that Japanese made games are simply the best, and they don’t appear to fail when it comes to JRPG games. I first started getting a liking for JRPG games when I played a bit of Fire Emblem on Virtual Console download for the 3DS from the eShop when they offered it on the Ambassador Download Programme. That’s not to say though that is not the first time I’ve ever played JRPG games, I’ve played other JRPG games before, the Pokemon games is a type of JRPG game and they’re a huge success because everybody liked Pokemon. I always appreciate the story play of games more than anything else when it comes to games with story plots, each one of them have their own unique tastes which makes the story very enchanting and magical. You can get absorbed in JRPG games when they have a really good story, you get really attached to the characters, that it can get a bit sad towards the end because once the story ends, you’re left wanting more and more of that character in a new story.

Story plot:

The story takes places in a fantasy world place called Lazulis Island, the land is dying, yet one place in the Empire remains untouched by the scourge– Lazulis Island. Zael heads there with his friends to seek his fortune and knighthood, but instead finds a mysterious power called “The Power of The Outsider”, a beautiful stranger and an adventure beyond his wildest dreams. They set out to restore peace to the land and the lands power which has been drained by two halves of The Outsiders which are kept hidden deep underground, one at Lazulis Castle and the other at the Gurak’s Fortress. While doing so you help Zael on his quest in leaving behind his former Mercenary life into becoming a Knight to help and protect those most closest to him.

Gameplay:

Your main character you play as is Zael, but from time-to-time you switch characters to play their part of the story in the game. When you first begin the game you start off as Dagran, Zael’s most closest friend, you start off in an underground cave fighting against Reptids on Lazulis Island till you meet up with the rest of the team to get through and then you play as Zael. Zael obtains the Power of the Outsider after seeing one of his comrades fall, using that power he can revive them instantly 5 times. With this new obtained power, Zael can draw the attention of enemies away from his alies towards himself averting their danger of being attacked, giving them a chance to fight back, but this poses a threat to Zael himself with all enemies being able to target him alone. However… Zael is very adequate in combat fighting and is capable of warding them off using his Sword and Arrows. The combat system is very nicely setup, you can plan your attacks and have your team take out the enemy as quickly and effectively as possible. You have 2 Mages Mirania, she’s a support mage who can heal your team as well as cast elemental magic to help you defeat your enemies, then there’s Yurick, he’s a Fire Mage who can cast Fire element Magic on enemies as well as being able to cast support magic to reverse enemy magic effects on Healing, Damage and Poison circles. There is also a half-mage half-warrior type combatant named Lowell he can cast Ice element Magic as well as use a Sword for fighting enemies. You also have Syrenne who’s a warrior type mercenary who loves to have a good fight and can wield two sword weapons. –– You can play The Last Story with either type of controls, using the Wiimote and Nunchuck or using the Classic Controller. I like using the classic controller, controls feel much more easier for me when playing games, but then so does playing with Wiimote and Nunchuck. I’m use to using either controls. The controls may seem a little difficult at first but after a while it gets easier and more familiar when you’re playing. :3  –– There’s just about plenty to do in The Last Story, most of the time you’ll busy with the Story of the game, and a bit of the Side-Quests in Lazulis City, and the Arena where you can fight in a stadium against monsters and earn money and rare items collected from Monsters, and then there’s upgrading your Weapons and Equipment to make them better, stronger and more powerful. You can go Online by connecting to Nintendo Wi-Fi with The Last Story by selecting Multiplayer from the Main Menu of the game screen and you can do CO-OP battles or Deathmatch battles with other players, and you use your Game Save with your characters Weapons and Equipment they are wearing.

Graphics:

Such beautiful graphics and almost realistic in a way, but in a sort of Anime style, but as you should know I am a huge fan of Anime, and anything Anime-Style gets my vote usually!(=^エ^=)I can’t think of a better word to describe how the graphics are. While the graphics may not be true brilliance HD form it’s still great as it is. Compared to so many other games out there on comparison with games like Final Fantasy, I would have to say it’s pretty much on equal grounds with it. :3  –– The Cinematic cut-scenes are amazing it almost makes you feel like you’re actually there, like you can actually jump inside this amazing fantasy world. –– This game only plays in EDTV/HDTV 60Hz Mode, so you can’t play this game unless your Wii TV settings are set to this mode.

Audio:

The best feature of the game is it’s music and audio dialogues of the characters. The music itself is amazing and fits so perfectly with this game, very great music composed by Nobuo Uematsu, my most favourite music track would have to be the main theme THE LAST STORY – Kizuna, Toberumono and Theme of THE LAST STORY. When I got the Last Story I bought the Limited Edition which included Art Book and Soundtrack CD. There some other music in the game too, but wasn’t included on the Soundtrack CD, I’ll probably try get a hold of the other Soundtrack CD at some other time, because there is so much great music in this game that I love, alot of the music is very moving. <3  …Have a listen at few of these tracks.

The VA’s for The Last Story are pretty awesome, at first when you listen to them it doesn’t sound quite right, but once you keep going they begin to sound really good, but you gotta love the accents! x3 –– What I love about the VA’s in The Last Story is that they all each bring a kind of welcoming warmth, very nicely scripted dialogs and it just goes with the flow, nothing ever sounds out of place, it just hits spot on, and the quirks of each character is sure to give you a bit of a laugh heh…heh…!(=^エ^=)I really love the VA for Lowell, very nice smooth accent, and quite a funny character as he makes alot of good jokes as the story goes on. The VA for Syrenne is pretty cool too, and sure to make you laugh a bit as she makes her own jokes. Then many other VA’s for the characters in the game is all really good, VA for Calista has a nice soft smooth tone that makes you feel strong, confident and reassured. Though depending on your likes and tests you may not like the sound of all characters in the game, either because it’s a certain VA of the character or because of what they do in the story. ^^;

Controls:

Like I’ve said before above you have the option to use either controls with Wiimote and Nunchuck or with Classic Controller. When I started playing The Last Story I found the controls a little difficult at first till I got familiarized with them after a while of playing with just using the Classic Controller. You use the Left Stick to Move and attack, you automatically attack enemies when you approach them when you’re tilting the left stick forward, while the Right Stick moves the camera around, the R Button lets you Guard against enemies, A Button lets you use your Special Attacks when you hold it down, it is also your Action Button for Opening Doors, Hiding behind cover, and for Slashing Enemies when you tilt the Left Stick when you see the icon on-screen, you can also use it to roll and dodge enemy attacks. Zl Button lets you Aim your Crossbow when you hold it down and you press A button to fire, can control your aim with either Left Stick or Right Stick, whichever you feel comfortable with. The Zl button can also be used to reset your camera. X button is used to open up the Start Menu where you can access your Inventory, Weapons, Map, Settings and Equipment. Y button lets you Drive, the D-Pad is your Command Mode, you use this to command your team, in Online Multiplayer this is used for Communication Messages. L Button is for your Gathering power, to use Zael’s Power of The Outsider.

The Characters:

The characters in The Last Story are brilliant and so cool, each character has something great and special about them that you’ll like and get attached to. Obviously there in the pic above the names are different because it’s in Japanese, and English names are given different names from the ones of the Japanese. Quark(クォーク) is Dagran, Kanan(カナン) is Calista (Lisa), Elza(エルザ) is Zael, Seiren(セイレン) is Syrenne, Yuris(ユーリス) is Yurick, Manamia(マナミア) is Mirania, aaand I think Lowell’s name in the Japanese one is Jack(ジャッカル). –– Dagran acts like the leader of the team group, but soon afterwards sometime later and a bit in the story Zael takes over as a team leader that everybody likes and respects, he shows what he really wants most, and cares alot about his friends and in protecting them from danger. Syrenne is one tough girl, she likes her booze, a hell of a lot! xD And loves to fight against monsters, and she also seems to have a knack for stirring up some trouble of her own too, and makes quite a bit of jokes too from time-to-time. Yurick at first he puts himself very distant from the others when it comes to socializing, but comes around when it comes to fighting, sometime after though later in the story he stops being so distant from the others and comes a bit closer to the team. Lowell likes to make some pretty good jokes and likes to flirt with just about every girl he sees, but throws in his true honesty with his friends and brings them around to all get along. Mirania is a gentle and very bright character, raised by a guardian of a forest as she claims, she’s on her own quest to find out why the land is dying, you don’t really see much quirks coming from Mirania, but however is talk active. Calista is very gentle and strong, but she’s not like your average girl, she likes to fight along side Zael’s team, she is a pretty powerful support mage and carries the bloodline of Arganan.

If you have a Wii and like JRPG games then I would defiantly recommend this game  THE LAST STORY (ラストストーリー Rasuto Sutōrī) A game that may well be up on par with the Final Fantasy series, a game you can really get absorbed in, and will probably have you listening to the game’s soundtracks over and over again. Well I’d rather let everyone decide for themselves if they think it’s a game thats up on par with Final Fantasy anyway, I’ve never really played any Final Fantasy games ever as I’ve said before, so I can’t really say much about Final Fantasy. ^^

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D

A while back I posted about this game from when I played the demo version, but after now obtaining the full game I’m now gonna go more over the details of the game and what this version has to offer that doesn’t have in the orignal PS2 versions. Had a bit of problems getting the game on Pre-order from GAME, because they were having credit issues and didn’t release the game on time in their stores, so I had to pickup the game elsewhere. –– So here we are Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D on Nintendo 3DS. Now before I begin I should say that the game is not 100% like the PS2 versions, as there are minor alterations in the game as well as a few additions.

 

In this version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D there are no Kerotan Frogs, they have been replaced by Nintendo’s mascot Yoshi, and not all the Yoshi’s that are replaced in the game from the Kerotan’s is that they’re not all in the same locations as the Kerotan’s were, they have been moved about to new locations which will take you a bit longer to find them, however some remain in the same locations as before.

New additions to Snake Eater 3D is the Photo Camouflage, this lets to take photos and use your photographs as camo patterns to help better conceal yourself, which I think is fantastic being able to create your own camo patterns to wear. The touch screen has everything you need on it for quick access, you have your real-time map display in the bottom left corner, Menu’s for Cure, Food and Map in the top left corner, your Health Gauge, Stamina Gauge, Weapons Ammo and Supressor icons in the upper center of the screen. You also have your Camo, Codec and Backpack icons on the upper right, and in the lower right corner of the screen is your Weapons and Items windows. There are quick buttons you use your Items and Weapons by pressing the D-Pad. UP is your Action button, you use this to climb, reload weapons, open doors, pickup and drop enemies and call out to EVA, DOWN will change your stance position from Standing, Crouching, and Crawling positions, RIGHT will equip and un-equip your Weapons, LEFT will equip and un-equip your Items. The B Y X A buttons will move the camera, unless you have Circle Pad Pro extension on your 3DS you’d use that to move the camera instead. I think one of the best things you’ll notice in Snake Eater 3D is that when you’re saving a game, saving takes alot less time to save than it would normally be on PS2 versions, it takes less than 10 seconds because there is no extra menus to click on memory cards to save to like you’d do on PS2 versions, it’s just quick simple confirmation screen with SAVE > OK > DONE. And Sigint will also tell you about Photo Camouflage when you are wearing one when you call him on the Codec. All photographs you take must be saved to the SD Card for you to be able to use Photo Camouflage. Here are some of the best photo camo patterns I’ve used to help me get through the game, and provided a 100% Camo Index, feel free to use them.

 

These are the most effective photo camo patterns you can use that are sure to give you 100% Camo Index, however Camo clothing isn’t everything, you”ve also got to make sure you’re using the right Face Paints with these too to even get 100% rating. You’ll probably find that the first Photo Camo will be used alot as it provides excellent Camo Index most of the time, you have to make sure you mix in with the other colors of course with the bits of blue white and red to make it a really good effective camo pattern. The 2nd one, no idea why, but provides excellent camouflage in Water, Urban and Indoor areas, using a bit of the bright white sunlight color and blue sky. The 3rd one, you’ll probably almost never use, seems only useful at Rassvet, next to Red Digital Camo this will provide a higher camo index. The 4th one using the Brown Wall as your texture it’s most effective in Brown areas like Krasnogorje Mountain, a much higher rating than Choco-Chip Camo with the Desert Face Paint. And finally the 5th photo Camo, this is very much like Woodland Face Paint, this will provide you excellent cover in Green areas, I found it most effective at Groznyj Grad inside Weapons Lab Main Wing, giving me a 100% Camo Index because the flooring has green all over. –– In addition of the Photo Camo the GA-KO Camouflage has been replaced with Fruit Camo, it still provides it’s same use, only to find Yoshi this time round.

 

As with other minor alterations in the game you can now move around with items and weapons that would normally lock you into FPV thanks to the new views you can use and switch between at any time during the game, switching from Auto-Aim, FPS (First Person Shooter) and TPS (Third Person Shooter), then the other ability to walk while crouching like you would in MGS4 and Peace Walker. The graphic textures are remade and very more realistic-ish, because they have much detailing into them for when you’re playing in 3D, plus you can also see expressions on their faces much more clearly. It really makes you feel more part of the game when you play games in 3D, you get that sense of being there because everything is so clear and stands out well. While playing this game you can view the Title Rankings you can get  in this game and how to get them by filling a certain criteria to obtaining a certain title rank, you can also view previous game stat records, as well as the one you’re currently playing which shows your current play-time in real-time, and what you’ve done so far, if you’ve caught x number of Animals and Plants, killed x number of persons, x number continues and alerts, etc… it’s good to be able to see all that at any time during play. It’s really useful if you’re going through the game to obtain the Markhor Title, or to get through the game on EXTREME difficulty without having Alerts, Kills, or Continues to achieve top title rank of Big Boss. You can obtain multiple Title Ranks than the main one you receive in the end, for example if you finish with Tsuchinoko Title, you may also have Chameleon Title and Scorpion Title’s as well. Chameleon Title is awarded for getting through the game without getting Alerts. Scorpion Title is awarded for killing 50 people or less.

 

For the rest of the game, there doesn’t appear to be any other significant changes, there’s still the hidden FPV in Cut-Scenes, except for the one at the very end where Naked Snake receives title of Big Boss, the end scene there Ocelot was suppose to appear in the background outside the window, but didn’t it would appear it was taken out, as it did appear on the MGS HD Collection. Being a MGS Fan I would probably buy any MGS game that appears on any platform, even if it’s a remake of a previous game. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater first released on PS2, then came it’s predecessor Substance which included Online Play which came to be known as Metal Gear Online 1, then came along it’s remake to MGS HD Collection using the Substance version which gave players free-ranged 360º camera control. Snake Eater 3D’s controls are pretty simple to get use to, for using weapons you have to use the L and R Buttons, L button to aim, and R button to fire, Circle Pad can have it’s sensitivity changed between 1 through 9, as with the camera controls the sensitivity can be changed 1 through 9, although it’s a pretty good idea to set the camera sensitivity to somewhere at it’s default value of 5, because at a value of 9 it’s gonna be difficult to get a nicely lines up shot that’s dead on target, as for the Circle Pad you can put it right up to 9, this will make it easier for you to sneak while crouching without accidentally pushing too far forward and getting the enemies attention, at least that’s what I had to do when I got to The End when I was trying to sneak up on him for his Moss Camo. :p I kept accidentally pushing too far on the circle pad and getting his attention, some of the other Boss fights seemed alot more tougher than usual for it being on the 3DS too. Another thing I notice too is that the game screen seems a little bit too dark even on the highest brightness setting on the 3DS which makes it a little difficult navigating the dark areas in the game.

 

I think I’ll probably write up a guide on finding the Yoshi’s in the game, but first I’ll have to go through the game carefully to find each and every one of them as a I go, because not everyone of them is in the same locations as the Kerotan Frogs. I think most people who’ve played the PS2/PS3 versions of this game would assume that they’ll all be in the same locations without actually having played the 3DS version. :P
